Thoughts on the Wilderness 5783

This Shabbat, we are reading BeMidbar, the first Torah portion in the book BeMidbar, known in English as the Book of Numbers.

I put together some commentaries to guide my discussion with the Temple Israel Torah Study group today.

BeMidbar Torah Study Sheet, in honor of my installation as spiritual leader of Temple Israel of Alameda.

To be honest, I’m really new to creating source sheets and leading Bible discussion groups. I enjoy the fact that I am learning and growing even as I settle into holding space for the souls around me.

The concept of the wilderness is an extremely important one for my understanding of the soul’s journey. The Bible itself is a jumping off point for a larger conversation. For me, the question never ends with the stories in the Bible. The Bible is a holding place for things that are far deeper and more impactful than that outer garment.

Shabbat Shalom.
